During our early years in college, we were introduced to the standards of building construction, yet we were given a chance to go beyond and express our creativity to our designs. But as we slowly leave the four corners of the room and proceed to the reality of life, building laws, standards, and/or codes become more essential to the planning and designing process. In our practice, these rules serve as a guideline in order to create a structure giving importance to our users and the environment.

With the economic growth stepping up, along with the urbanization in the country, the National Building Code of the Philippines was born. It is made up of building requirements and provides minimum standards that aim to ensure safety in the building construction. This book allows you to know the important and crucial things needed in any project. It helps you identify your project type and gives you the necessary information in that particular area. The knowledge that one who practices in this field should know such as the building setbacks and the allowable floor area which differs in the type of lot is also presented here. There are guidelines such as the minimum building height, ceiling height, requirements for light and ventilation, and such that can help in making our users feel more comfortable. It also aims to give guidance for constructing a structure that will be able to withstand or reduce the possibility of occurrence of any natural or man-made calamities such as earthquakes and fire which can greatly affect its users. It is a book that highly prioritizes people.

Quality architecture does not only focus on its aesthetic side. Although these set of rules and regulations limit us in going beyond our creative mind, remember that we have a duty to ensure the safety of our users and the environment. We, the future builders, and this so-called “The Builder’s Bible”, share a common goal: providing a quality design that leads us towards a safer community.
