International Builder’s Bible

The National Building Code has been guiding the people in the field of architecture and construction for many years in the country tagging it as the “Builder’s Bible”. But looking on a wider scale, there is a building code formulated with more advanced standards that we can refer to.

International Building Code, more commonly referred to as the IBC is the primary bedrock of the cluster of international codes. Sharing the same goal as the NBC, the IBC serves as a tool and device in preserving the welfare of the public. It is just that the IBC tackles and discusses new ideas that help in providing a better-quality design and introduces innovative materials.

International Building Code has its string lines of benefits. One of its benefits is being that the grounding principle and theory of this certain model are solely based on preservation and putting forth importance on the protection of the general public's health, safety, and welfare. Another benefit of IBC is that this code is equivalent to an efficient and effective lay-outing or designs that give off flexibility for the code official, designer, engineer, and architect. It also has visioned the encouragement of the use of the highly technical, new, and smarter technological devices that we have in the present days. This code cites nationally developed consensus standards and also, it puts forth importance and highlight on prescriptive and carefully-engineered solutions to allow the use of methods that have stood the test of time.

Modernity and innovation have also been connected with the concept of IBC because the current IBC models and its past predecessors have the brand of moving forward and promoting advances while still putting greater importance in protecting the health and safety of the general public.

We have been relying on the country’s “builder’s bible” which is the National Building Code for the standards and requirements to be applied in our project. But as the world continues to develop, we should become fully aware of the other codes that can be used for the development of not only the project but also the development of the standards and requirements in the country. Architects and other related professionals have to safeguard the public’s health and safety and the International Building Codes has the advancement in this particular subject.
