The tourism industry has a great impact by means of contributing to the country’s economic growth and development. Based on RA 9593, also known as “The Tourism Act of 2009,” the state asserts that tourism is an essential element of the national economy. In relation to my project, the act aims to develop the country as a major tourist hub in Asia and a center of world conventions.
Aside from the promotional and marketing programs of the government for improving the tourism of the country, the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibition, also known as the MICE industry, show great impact and have the potential to boost the tourism sector of a country. It has been stated in an article entitled “Mice industry is expected to boost PH Tourism in 2019” led by Mr. Fred Rara that the Philippines has been acknowledged as a viable destination through MICE tourism to attract more international visitors to the country. The world heritage sites of the Philippines and distinctive natural and cultural wonders often compliment these places making it more as an ideal place for MICE.
In our country, there are several locations that have been having MICE. The examples of these are the country's capital alone houses the Mall of Asia Complex, Philippine International Convention Center, and Cultural Center of the Philippines that can host both business and pleasure functions.
I have chosen the RA 9593 as my specialized law for my thesis project as it stated that the state seeks to develop the MICE and Tourism industry of the country. This shall act as supporting data for the project. Although most of the convention centers ended as not being used or empty, with thorough research and proper execution maybe I’ll find a way to avoid these instances. Who wouldn’t want to make their project successful, right?
